Estudió Artes Visuales en la Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas, mejor conocida como San Carlos. En 1977 tuvo su primera exposición individual en la misma escuela con el título de Tijeras, integrada por diez dibujos con textos a manera de historietas y un libro de artista. Beneficiaria del Sistema Nacional de Creadores del Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes en los años 1994, 1997, 2002, 2006, 2011 y 2014. En 2009 presentó el proyecto “Glaciares” junto con la compositora Ana Lara, en la Sala de Arte Público Siqueiros, Ciudad de México y colaboró con Javier Torres Maldonado en la pieza “Un posible día” para La Muse en Circuit, Centre National de Création Musicale, Théâtre de Villejuif en París, Francia. Obtuvo la maestría en el año 2011 en la Facultad de Artes de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos en la cual es profesora. Participo en la curaduría de Circuito abierto, dos experiencias editoriales en el fondo Felipe Ehrenberg, ARKHEIA; MUAC; UNAM. En los últimos años ha colaborado en proyectos sobre dibujo, gráfica digital, cerámica y animación. Le interesan las distintas maneras en que el pensamiento gráfico contemporáneo puede aparecer en diversos soportes trabajado con materiales diferentes. En 2012 trabajó en “La Ciudad de los libros” en la parte artística de las salas infantiles: Bebeteca y Ludoteca, Sala de alfabetización digital y Colección general.
Ha expuesto de manera individual y en colectivas en México, Estados Unidos, Europa y América Latina. Su obra forma parte de varias colecciones públicas y privadas como: Museum of Modern Art MOMA (Nueva York E.U.A.), Centro Cultural Arte Contemporáneo (México D.F.), Coca-Cola México (D.F.), Fundación Banamex (México D.F.), Fundación Cultural Televisa (México D.F.), Galería de Arte Mexicano (México D.F.), Instituto de Arte de Chicago (Illinois E.U.A.), Museo de Arte Álvar y Carmen T. de Carrillo Gil (México D.F.), Museo José Luis Cuevas (México D.F.). Sin duda, Magali Lara es una de las mujeres más destacadas dentro del arte mexicano de tradición figurativa que plasma en su obra naturalezas en constante cambio.

Lara studied Visual Arts at the National School of Fine Arts, better known as San Carlos. In 1977, she had her first individual exhibition at the same school with the title of “Scissors”, this exhibition was shaped by ten drawings with texts similar to comics and a book of the artist. Lara was granted with a scholarship by the National System of Creadores del Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes in 1994, 1997, 2002, 2006, 2011 and 2014. In 2009, she presented the project "Glaciers" along with the composer Ana Lara, in the Art Gallery Public Siqueiros, Mexico City and they worked with Javier Torres Maldonado in the piece "A possible day" for La Muse en Circuit, Centre National de Création Musicale, Théâtre de Villejuif in Paris, France. Lara got a Masters´ degree in 2011 at the Faculty of Arts at the Autonomous University of Morelos in which she currently teaches. She participated in curating of the Open circuit, two publishing experiences for the Felipe Ehrenberg Fond, Arkheia; MUAC; UNAM. In recent years, she has collaborated with projects on drawing, digital graphics, ceramics and animation. Lara is interested in the ways in which contemporary graphic thinking may appear in various environments working with different materials. In 2012, Lara worked in "The City of books" in the artistic part of the children's rooms: Bebeteca and playroom, in the digital literacy room and the General Collection. She has exhibited individually and in group exhibitions in Mexico, the United States, Europe and Latin America. Her work is part of several public and private collections: Museum of Modern Art MOMA (New York USA), Contemporary Art Cultural Centre (Mexico City), Coca-Cola Mexico City, Banamex Foundation (Mexico City), Televisa Cultural Foundation (Mexico City), Mexican Art Gallery (Mexico City), Art Institute of Chicago (Illinois, USA), Museum of Art Alvar and Carmen T.
